2020-01-23 19:00:00 2020-01-23 21:00:00 America/Vancouver IWC Public Reading Series This event is presented as a collaboration between the IWC Public Reading Series and UBC Okanagan. The bilingual event features three writers from out east: Ian Ferrier, Samuel Archibald and Marie-Andrée Gill. A 3-spot open mic will start the event. Ian Ferrier is one of the core writer/performers in the North American performance literature scene. His work is well-known across Canada, New York and Europe. Rooted in poetry, his live performances are a haunting blend of acoustic guitar, choir; whispered voice, and the trancelike music of a band called Pharmakon. His signature is the quiet, compelling voice at the centre of every piece. This event is sponsored by the City of Kelowna, The League of Canadian Poets, Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and UBC Okanagan’s Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies. We thank them for their generous contribution. The space is wheelchair accessible via an elevator out front. However, the space is undergoing renovations to make the bathrooms more accessible, as such, the bathrooms upstairs are closed. The bathrooms downstairs are not wheelchair accessible. There are two single-stall, ungendered washrooms. We respectfully acknowledge that we live and work in the unceded, ancestral territory of the Syilx people. It is a privilege to be able to put on events as uninvited guests on their land. Centre culturel francophone de l'Okanagan 702 Bernard Avenue events@kelownanow.com
