1969-12-31 20:00:00 1969-12-31 16:00:00 America/Vancouver Living Things International Arts Festival The Living Things International Arts Festival offers the local and regional arts communities (practitioners and general public) a festival devoted to celebrated, innovative touring performances of theatre, music, dance, performance art and hybrid forms. In a time when opportunities for virtual communication expand exponentially, the power of live presence becomes more rare and consequently more valuable. At Living Things, we cherish the pleasure and power of live performances, we admire the extraordinary things people can do, and we celebrate the simple, playful magic of the stage. The third iteration of Living Things (January 11 – February 9, 2019) includes performances from the UK, the USA, Montreal, Vancouver and the Okanagan Valley presented in the RCA Mary Irwin Theatre, the Black Box Theatre (Kelowna Community Theatre) and other venues TBA. Throughout the festival we will also have live public installations in the FINA Gallery in the Creative and Critical Studies building on the UBCO campus, and exhibitions of both student and faculty artwork at the Alternator Gallery. Living Things brings local live performance audiences together by presenting work that crosses artistic boundaries; visual art, music, dance, theatre and poetry rub shoulders within the same shows. We have support from the City of Kelowna, the Canada Council, the BC Arts Council, the centre culturel francophone, and the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies. Living Things reaches into our community, bringing all ages theatre, masks, puppets, contemporary political theatre, music and spoken word to youth, students and all spectators who are curious and willing to explore the unfamiliar. Living Things: where Curious comes to play....
