The Kamloops Blazers season has come to an end, but Emmitt Finnie won’t be putting his equipment away just yet.
The 18-year-old signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings this morning.
While the deal doesn’t officially kick in until the start of the 2024-25 season, Finnie will join the AHL’s Grand Rapid Griffins for the remainder of the year on an amateur tryout.
Serving as an alternate captain for Kamloops, Finnie had an impressive season on a rebuilding club with 19 goals and 40 assists in 62 games.
Four of his 19 goals came shorthanded, good enough for fourth-most in the WHL during the 2023-24 campaign.
The Lethbridge product was drafted in the seventh round, 201st overall, by the Red Wings in the 2023 NHL entry draft.
