One of the last lakeshore properties standing in the way of free access between Rotary and Boyce-Gyro beaches has been bought by the City of Kelowna.
The 0.16-hectare (0.4-acre) property at 3676 Lakeshore Road was purchased for $2.7 million.
It has been acquired with the intention of future park expansion, the City explained.
“This property is one of the last significant obstacles for continued waterfront access between Boyce-Gyro Beach Park and Rotary Beach Park, so it’s an important acquisition at a reasonable cost for waterfront property,” Mayor Colin Basran added.
It follows the recent purchase of lakeshore properties at 4214 Hobson Road and 4020 Lakeshore Road.
The City’s Official Community Plan outlines the commitment to buy land for the community’s benefit when it is feasible to do so.
