Elderly driver takes out storefront window at Kelowna Wendy’s

Customers of the Wendy’s along Harvey Avenue in Kelowna got a bit more than they ordered during lunch on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the restaurant's owner, just before noon, an elderly woman hit the gas instead of the brake causing her vehicle to lurch forward into the business.

No customers were injured and the two women in the vehicle were okay after the incident.

However, the storefront window took quite a beating.

Police did visit the scene and taped it off using chairs from the restaurant.

Owners were in the process of boarding the busted windows up around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Wendy’s remains open to customers.

A similar incident happened in late December when a 90-year-old man drove into the storefront window of Fezziwig's Bakery in the Lower Mission.

Luckily, the bakery was closed at the time, but the business owner said it could have been a dangerous situation as a pane of glass crashed directly onto a popular table for customers.
