Comeback win sends Rockets home with 7 of a possible 8 points on road trip

It’s a long bus ride home from Prince George to Kelowna, but it’s a much easier ride when you’re coming off a win.

That’s the trip the Kelowna Rockets are making today after a second straight win in Prince George and a third win in four games under interim head coach Kris Mallette.

After a week on the road, the Memorial Cup hosts are coming home with seven of a possible eight points.

After Tyson Feist opened the scoring for Kelowna just two minutes in, Vladislav Mikhalchuk responded for the Prince Cougars just three minutes later.

Dillon Hamaliuk restored the Rockets’ lead, but once again the Cougars tied it up, this time thanks to Connor Bowie with just 31 seconds to play in the opening frame.

Cole Moberg scored the only goal in the second period, giving Prince George it’s first lead of the game heading into the final 20 minutes.

A wild third period started with Kyle Topping’s 11th of the season just 72 seconds into the third period, but once again Moberg tickled the twine to put Prince George ahead again.

However, the Matthew Wedman show began with six minutes left in the game, as the former Seattle Thunderbirds scored two goals in the final few minutes to give Kelowna a 5-4 win.

The Rockets now come home to host the Everett Silvertips at Prospera Place on Friday before the two teams travel south of the border for a rematch on Saturday.
