Grocery store chain releasing updated list of locations where employees tested positive for COVID-19

Sobeys, the parent company of stores such as Safeway, IGA and FreshCo, says it is consistently updating a list of locations where they have had employees with confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The most recent additions to the list were made on Friday, and included several IGA stores in Quebec.

The list also includes a few BC stores. Safeway at King Edward Mall in Vancouver had a pharmacy employee with coronavirus. The last day that employee worked was March 31.

Another employee at a FreshCo location in Richmond also tested positive. That employee’s last shift was on March 26.

Sobeys said that they will update their “COVID-19 tracker” whenever they are notified of confirmed cases, but will not release any personal employee information.

“We will always do everything we can to support our teammates and ensure their safety. Where required, we will communicate with customers who have shopped in the impacted location, with store signage, outlining our steps to manage the situation,” Sobeys explained.

“Out of an abundance of caution, with each case that is reported, we will deep clean and sanitize the store location.”

Health Canada and the Public Health Authority of Canada are recommending that people try to only go grocery shopping once a week.

If you are in mandatory self-isolation, you should not be going out at all.
