According to Allan Duncan, people are "looking for something other than the same-old, same-old." That's one of the reasons he's running in Central Okanagan-Similkameen-Nicola under the People's Party of Canada banner.
Duncan noted the PPC has grown faster than any new party in Canadian history with candidates in over 320 ridings. "We have over 40,000 members and growing," he pointed out.
He said, the drifting principles of the other parties has created a place for the People's Party.
"We believe the group has moved left. More left of centre than they've ever been," he said. "So we're remaining right of centre, conservative, fiscal conservative and more libertarian than authoritarian. Like more personal freedoms and smaller government."
On immigration, Duncan likes his party's platform to tighten things up.
"Just the way it's been managed, seems a little chaotic."
On climate change, he said members of his party have a free exchange of ideas on the topic, saying his party is not a party of climate deniers.
"Some people are, but not everyone. And so it's interesting how in the party we've found a way to have civil discussions about it."
He said we need a free exchange of ideas on the topic.
"If you're minimizing the opinions, you're not going to be able to find a way to bridge it together and work on things."
The fact that his adopted party is brand new appeals to Duncan, and he said it appeals to voters too.
"I think people in Canada and even in the local ridings here are looking for new options," he said.
" I have high hopes and expectations that we're going to shake things up."
Voting day is Monday, Oct 21.
