UPDATE: More than 6 week long water quality advisory lifted in West Kelowna

(UPDATE: Nov. 21 @ 3 pm) - A lengthy water quality advisory in West Kelowna has been lifted.

As of today, the Lakeview Water System is no longer under a water quality advisory and the City of West Kelowna has also completed watermain maintenance for the year.

That also means the City has stopped the flow of free water at the bulk filling station at the intersection of Shannon Lake Road and Asquith Road.

(Original story: Oct. 7 @ 2:20 pm) - The Lakeview Water System is now under a water quality advisory.

It was issued by the City of West Kelowna and Interior Health on Monday due to elevated turbidity in water drawn from Rose Valley Reservoir.

“A Water Quality Advisory means children, the elderly, people with weakened immunity and anyone else seeking added protection should use boiled water,” says a statement from the City.

It also suggests using “an alternate, safe source for drinking, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, preparing food, making beverages and ice and mixing baby formula.”

Free water is available from the bulk water station located at Shannon Lake Road and Asquith Road, which is treated through the Powers Creek Treatment Plant.

Residents should bring their own containers and hoses if needed, which should be clean and suitable for potable water.

The Lakeview Water System covers a large portion of central West Kelowna, including parts of Shannon Lake, Rose Valley and Lakeview Heights.

You can check which system your house is serviced by on the City website.
