Kelowna weather: Fruit growers warned of incoming 'Arctic airmass'

Bad news, once again, for Okanagan fruit growers.

Environment Canada has issued a warning today about an “Arctic airmass” that will bring below-seasonal temperatures to the region between Friday and next Wednesday.

That “may impact vulnerable populations and agricultural vegetation,” the forecaster said.

Fruit growers have been nervously watching the weather after last year’s devastating frost destroyed much of their crops.

Kelowna’s forecast for today, meanwhile, includes winds of up to 50 kilometres an hour and showers.

It’s predicted to be mostly cloudy, but with a few patches of sunshine.

The temperature is expected to reach a high of 3ºC, before tumbling to -4ºC in the evening.
